A great team does not only depend on the manager of the team. A good manager certainly helps, but more than anything else, it is all about the connection between the unique individuals in the team. This connection cannot be engineered or imposed by one person alone, but is a shared endeavour.
The Unlock Your Team’s Potential model shares 10 elements which help you – as a team together – to unlock your team’s connection, creativity, and joy.
How can you use this model?
A great start is to discuss the 10 elements together. How well do you rate yourself for each element? What are you already great at? Where is space for improvement? Pick one action and focus on that one for the coming weeks. Whatever action you choose, it will always have a ripple effect, and impact the other elements as well!

I had the chance to work together with Lieke for 9 months in the L&D team at MSF, where she was the head of the L&D team and I was one of the team members. Lieke has done a fantastic job at facilitating a workshop with the whole Logistics Department. The workshop, involving 30 participants, was about building the objectives of each units of the department.
Lieke is a quick-thinker and immediately grasped the intention and stakes of the workshop. She then proposed a methodology and showed flexibility to adapt it to the evolution of the workshop. She brought a very good dynamic, catching and maintaining the interest of participants and showing great mediation skills. Hello! My name is Lieke and I’m the founder of Unlockyourpotential.
For the past 15 years, I have worked in a wide variety of contexts: Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, CAR, South Sudan and many more. However different all these contexts may be, they have one thing in common: people everywhere are capable of incredible things when they experience a deep connection with each other and when they experience joy.
For this reason, people management is not about applying tools; it is all about the connection you create and nurture with the people you work with.
Teams are not just about putting unique individuals together and giving the job roles; it is about the connection these members feel between them that creates that magic spark from which new ideas arise. Communication is not just about speaking words; it is all about the connection you create with the people you speak with. Therefore, in our trainings we bring a mix of humour, true human connection, and a focus on people’s unique strengths as the basis to work from.
